Guardian is committed to improving the accessibility and usability of the platform. This article documents confirmed accessibility improvements that have been deployed in response to findings identified through accessibility reviews. It will be updated as additional improvements are validated and released.
August 11, 2026 Deployment
This deployment included 69 accessibility improvements across Student Incident Reporting, Email Templates, and shared interface components. These updates improve keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, visual presentation, form instructions and validation, dialogs, and content behavior at increased zoom levels.
Keyboard Navigation and Focus
1. Student Incident Reporting: Added visible keyboard focus indicators to the Go Back and Submit Report buttons.
3. Shared Interface Components: Removed keyboard focus from non-interactive page content so keyboard users can move more efficiently between actionable controls.
22. Student Incident Reporting: Added a visible focus indicator to the email-assistance control.
25. Student Incident Reporting: Added a visible focus indicator to the email-assistance close control.
28. Student Incident Reporting: Improved focus placement after users add or remove an involved party.
31. Student Incident Reporting: Added a visible focus indicator to the supporting-document upload control.
34. Student Incident Reporting: Improved focus handling when a form is submitted with incomplete required fields.
43. Email Templates: Added visible focus indicators to template actions, including loading, adding, and deleting templates.
45. Email Templates: Added keyboard support for selecting and opening available email templates.
46. Email Templates: Updated the Type selector so it no longer activates solely because it receives keyboard focus.
52. Email Templates: Added visible focus indicators to controls within the Letterhead and Special Code Hints dialogs.
61. Email Templates: Improved keyboard and screen-reader access to rich-text editor functions.
69. Student Incident Reporting: Added visible focus indicators to the Individual and Organization radio-button options.
Accessible Names, Labels, and Instructions
4. Student Incident Reporting: Aligned the accessible names of the Incident Report Type, Location, Specific Location, and Building fields with their visible labels.
5. Student Incident Reporting: Added instructions explaining that an asterisk identifies a required field.
6. Shared Interface Components: Added accessible labels to font, font-size, and alignment controls within text editors.
7. Student Incident Reporting: Updated the Primary Details editor with a clear, descriptive accessible label.
8. Student Incident Reporting: Improved accessible labels for the Course and Section and Assignments of Concern fields.
16. Student Incident Reporting: Improved the accessible label for the Nature of This Report selection field.
17. Student Incident Reporting: Aligned the accessible name of the Name search field with its visible label.
18. Student Incident Reporting: Aligned the accessible names of the ID Number, Phone Number, Email Address, and Role fields with their visible labels.
21. Student Incident Reporting: Defined the programmatic purposes of Name, Phone Number, and Email Address fields to improve compatibility with assistive input and autofill features.
26. Student Incident Reporting: Updated the accessible name of the email-assistance control so its purpose is communicated more clearly.
29. Student Incident Reporting: Added unique, descriptive accessible labels to involved-party removal controls.
32. Student Incident Reporting: Updated the supporting-document upload control with an accessible label that aligns with its visible instructions.
44. Email Templates: Added unique, descriptive accessible labels to email-template deletion controls.
47. Email Templates: Added an accessible label to the file-upload control.
48. Email Templates: Updated the Message editor with a clear, descriptive accessible label.
53. Email Templates: Added accessible labels to additional file-upload controls within the template workflow.
54. Email Templates: Added an accessible label to the Include Letterhead Image checkbox.
56. Email Templates: Added a descriptive text alternative for the organization logo displayed in the Letterhead dialog.
60. Email Templates: Replaced non-descriptive link wording with text that communicates each link's destination or purpose.
64. Student Incident Reporting: Extended accessible-name alignment to additional occurrences of report type and location-related selection fields.
67. Email Templates: Identified Template Title, Subject, and Message as required fields before form submission.
Color and Visual Presentation
2. Student Incident Reporting: Updated link styling so links are distinguishable through more than color alone.
9. Shared Interface Components: Increased the contrast of placeholder text used in form fields.
10. Student Incident Reporting: Increased the contrast of borders surrounding Course and Section and Assignments of Concern fields.
12. Student Incident Reporting: Increased the contrast of radio-button controls in both selected and unselected states.
15. Student Incident Reporting: Increased the contrast of checkbox controls.
19. Shared Interface Components: Increased the contrast of involved-party radio buttons and related form controls.
20. Student Incident Reporting: Increased the contrast of placeholder text used in involved-party fields.
49. Email Templates: Increased the contrast of the Template Title, Subject, and Message editor controls.
57. Email Templates: Increased the contrast of switches when they are in the unchecked state.
59. Email Templates: Increased the contrast of visual indicators used to identify selected items.
66. Student Incident Reporting: Increased the contrast of the Clear and Today controls in the date picker.
Screen-Reader Structure and Form Relationships
11. Student Incident Reporting: Programmatically grouped related Yes and No radio buttons so their relationship is announced by screen readers.
13. Student Incident Reporting: Programmatically grouped additional related radio-button options, including Hybrid and Online selections.
14. Student Incident Reporting: Programmatically grouped related checkbox options so their shared purpose is communicated to screen-reader users.
24. Student Incident Reporting: Corrected the heading structure within the Email Assistance dialog.
27. Student Incident Reporting: Programmatically grouped involved-party fields so their relationship and purpose are communicated more clearly.
39. Shared Interface Components: Added page landmarks that identify header and main-content regions for assistive-technology users.
40. Shared Interface Components: Removed unnecessary heading markup from file-upload instructions.
41. Email Templates: Added programmatic selected-state information so screen readers announce the current template-page selection.
42. Email Templates: Corrected the heading hierarchy on the Email Templates page.

23. Student Incident Reporting: Improved the Email Assistance dialog so keyboard and screen-reader users can identify and navigate its content.
30. Student Incident Reporting: Added assistive-technology feedback confirming when an involved-party section has been removed.
33. Student Incident Reporting: Added text-based error messaging for required fields so validation errors are not communicated through color alone.

68. Email Templates: Updated validation so required-field errors are presented together rather than one at a time.
Zoom, Reflow, and Text Spacing
37. Student Incident Reporting: Updated the Email Assistance dialog so its content remains available at 200% zoom.
38. Student Incident Reporting: Improved content reflow in the Email Assistance dialog at 400% zoom.
62. Email Templates: Prevented the header and main content from overlapping when custom text-spacing settings are applied.
